Rian's incredible story! What an amazing kid! It was an absolute pleasure and honor to work with this family as well! You guys are missed and I will never forget you! You always have a place in my heart as you know. Kiddo, you taught me so many things that I could have NEVER learned in a book alone. Thank you Rian for all you have taught "Miss" Kelly :). I miss our sessions together to this day!!!

Our daughter was diagnosed with hydrocephalus prior to birth in 2006. Upon birth we also learned she was legally blind, had scoliosis of her spine, and mild cerebral palsy affecting her legs and making it difficult to walk. The pressure from her hydrocephalus was released with a newer procedure which avoided placing a shunt. Although the pressure was released she still suffers the lifelong impacts associated with it. She has a cognitive delay impacting her learning abilities, speech and daily functions. She also suffers from anxiety and sensory issues.
Kelly was our daughter's second speech and language pathologist, and first home speech therapist. Our daughter was 1 1/2 when Kelly began her at home assessment and therapy. There were many opportunities as you could imagine at this age and with the complications our daughter had with quite a challenging road ahead of her. Kelly moved forward with setting goals for our daughter and achieving them, making noticeable progress throughout the years. Kelly always maintained a professional and friendly attitude.
Very early on we felt a close friendship with her as she always took the time our daughter needed and made sure our concerns and questions were promptly addressed.
We had changes to the adults overseeing the therapy weekly. Sometimes it was Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa, her older siblings or our respite provider. She always kept us all on the same page with any updates maintaining goals and giving us the tools we needed to continue to encourage our daughter on a daily basis. She also coordinated her goals with the other therapists our daughter had. She met with her occupational therapist as well as the physical therapist to ensure she was fully informed with all of our daughter’s goals and progress. Our daughter progressed from single words to phrases, even using questions as her method to communicate her needs and express what she wanted. She transitioned to answering questions and making statements to communicate her needs. She then moved forward with more descriptive statements and learned in depth language skills. Her favorites were learning synonyms and idioms.
We had requested phone call therapy to assist our daughter with her language skills and assist her in carrying a conversation both on the phone with distant family and friends as well as in person. Kelly welcomed our ideas and embraced them with great experience and guidance overall resulting in improvement both our family and friends recognized. We still kept up with speech therapy at home throughout the changes. Our daughter was also being home
schooled for a couple years and Kelly gave us great insight to the teachings we could provide and incorporate into her language skills.
Kelly was always flexible and understanding with our schedules changing and three moves over the course of 9 1/2 years. We would still continue to have Kelly as our daughter’s speech therapist however we decided to move out of state and therefore could not continue. Our family and friends continue to express their amazement in how far our daughter has come.
It's difficult to put into words the overall love and appreciation we will always have for Kelly. Not only does she exceed at what she does, but she's a beautiful person inside and out. Our gratitude is long overdue. Thank you Kelly to all your support and guidance you have given our family and thank you for the difference you have made in our daughter's life giving her a great foundation of communication and confidence in everything she faces. Our daughter continues to grow in her daily challenges and expresses her love for Kelly and how much she misses her and we do too. We look forward to sharing her continued progress with Kelly and keep in contact with her.

Grandpa and I laughing as usual. I was born on his birthday
and he is my Godfather, which to me is one of the best gifts you could ever have. He is first generation American, as his parents immigrated to the United States from Poland. His dad spoke Polish primarily, but despite this they were "somehow" able to communicate according to my grandpa. This guy is FOREVER my rock!
RIP Grandma, ❤ you always! 6/14/2018
On the left side, Navy nephew who has grown so much taller than his Auntie Kelly! Proud of you kid!! He was a rescue swimmer in the US Navy and feel he is very brave, as swimming like that in the ocean is certainly not my terrain (not to mention those times we both intensively talked about sharks/Jaws when you were a littleton). It takes the right kind of guy! Not to mention you flew helicopters!! Geez & I thought bumper cars were cool, lol! Keep up the good work kid, you are much wiser than your years FYI!
Down below, Grandpa (my best friend) in the Coast Guard during World War II. We stand to learn from the Traditionalists as they have so much wisdom. Thank you grandpa, you by far have the BEST listening ears, are so patient, and wise. I appreciate all the time you have devoted to me & am so fortunate that at one long point in my life, I had all FOUR of my grandparents. I don't know where I would have been without you and Grandma Trudie (Gertrude). Last man standing, but the toughest by far. ❤

Please do let us know if you are MILITARY or FIRST RESPONDERS. Having MANY military family members and one police first responder in our family, we here appreciate ALL you do! Thanks for your service. Kelly is the daughter, sister, & stepdaughter to MARINE CORP veterans. Kelly herself also thought about joining the military, but her science passion took her in a different direction.
Kelly Jenkins spoke LIVE to Channel 3 News Anchor Ryan O'Donnell on 5/23/15. Go to the search section azfamily.com on the website and type kids and technology. Kelly Jenkins was also on ABC 15 news LIVE in June 2015. Kelly Jenkins has both videos from these news interviews if you would like to see them. It was certainly a FUN experience!

My brother, police man, former Marine, and phenomenal soccer goalie/player as well as a multiple sport athlete. Very proud! No doubt about it, my ONLY brother helped to shape me as the person I am today! Thanks big brother, you have always had my back. I would not be as strong without you and I am forever grateful. From all those soccer challenges in the back yard where you never let down, big brother toughen up challenges, and verbal sparring, your little sister does not have enough words to express how truly appreciative I am for you ! You have me speechless, which is not easy to do and you know this! ;).
Wow grandpa, I wonder if this is what you look like in heaven!! RIP 6/13/2018

The great grandkid of the Grandpa above enjoying learning about history in San Antonio Texas 2017 :). The Alamo is way bigger than it looks!
Time flies when you are having fun! This kid is growing so big now to the point he had his first sleepover away from mom for several days first week of August 2022 (wow!!) The house has been silent. He has been taller than his mom since July 2021 (very easy to do BTW). This boy has taught his mama so much that I cannot keep up with him. Kids are amazing, let alone your own kid! Picture down below=my son & I enjoying the quiet while we hiked in Flagstaff AZ, May 2021. Smiles are contagious!
My son and I at the Alamo in 2017.

The boy accompanied me on a work trip for mom and son's first solo trip to Flagstaff, AZ July 2022. Boy did we make an adventure together and did a photo shoot! Thanks son, that was super fun. We saw our first red and black striped snake together on Christmas Tree Trail (my favorite trail in Flagstaff). That's what life is about, making memories! It's sad that people take for granted their memory, talking, communicating, socializing, eating, hearing, mobility, etc. These are tasks to most that seem so easy, until life takes a left turn. Please be patient with those who have cognitive linguistic deficits and or language impairments, so they too can make memories and most of all FEEL INCLUDED! Just because someone has difficulty talking, doesn't mean they don't know what they are talking about! Kindness requires patience and you can't judge a book by it's cover, that's for sure. Use your family photos to engage in conversation to the best of a person's ability, as these are certainly high motivators to talk about and life is too short not to communicate. It's hard to perceive talking as an annoying task, until you have difficulty doing it. High motivators are certainly always something to work towards, as decreasing communicative avoidance is key. Increasing communication opportunities is crucial to forward progress as we want to minimize social avoidance as much as reasonably possible. When people have difficulty talking, they don't always seek others out to socialize, which is a healthy trait individualistic to humans.

SHOUT OUT July 2022!
HAPPY 90TH Birthday Grandma!!!! What a party it was! We are glad you enjoyed it as the decorating was mighty fun! Let's give them something to talk about! Talking while looking at pictures not only stimulates conversation, it helps people stay on topic in regards to what they are talking about. Talking conveys a TON of information back and forth & something humans do ALL DAY LONG! Grandma immigrated to the U.S. from France with her immediate family. She lived in France when Hitler invaded her town, resulting in her living in a monastery with nuns as well as other orphans for a fairly long period of time. She lived without her parents for several years due to the war & this abruptly changed several Europeans' lives, let alone the Americans. Thanks grandma for all you have sacrificed! You are the sweetest!
Happy 90th to the sweetest lady in the world!

Went to the boy's soccer game when our friend unexpectedly gave us their season passes to a professional soccer game that was subsequently after. So off we went! Our first professional soccer game together with fireworks and all! What a way to spend the 4th weekend, watching soccer, and taking all the freedom in. Thanks America for all the freedoms you give to everyone.
